6 Signs Your CDJR Needs a Brake Repair

You’re driving along, and traffic comes to a stop, so you step gently on the brakes and hear a squealing noise. This is unusual, but it’s nothing to be alarmed about; it just means you need a brake repair, and it’s one of the many signs that can show up when your braking system needs some TLC. Your CDJR dealer can take care of any brake problems you have, as the factory-trained technicians have plenty of experience with fixing brake issues.

1. Your Brakes Perform Poorly

If your brakes are performing poorly, it typically means it’s taking a few seconds longer than usual to stop when you step on the brake pedal. Many minor issues can cause this problem, such as worn rotors or a low brake fluid level. Although the problem is usually minor, you should get to the dealer urgently, as poor brake performance can be very dangerous for you.

2. Your Brakes Are Grinding

Your car has brake pads that stop the brake calipers from pressing directly against the rotors. When these pads wear down, the calipers and rotors touch each other when you brake, creating a loud grinding sound. If you drive with your brakes in this condition for too long, then your rotors may become damaged and need to be turned or replaced entirely.

3. Your Brakes Are Squealing

Squealing brakes also indicate a problem with the brake pads, but the problem is usually in the early stages. It means your brake pads have recently become too thin and should be replaced.

4. Your Car Pulls to One Side

When you step on your brakes, your car is supposed to stop, and that’s it. It should never veer to one side as if you’ve turned the steering wheel and then stepped on the brake pedal. This can point to a lot of small issues, such as worn-down brake pads, a jammed caliper piston, contaminated brake fluid, or uneven brake linings.

5. Your Brake Pedal Pulsates

Feedback, such as pulsation or vibration, on your brake pedal when you step on it definitely isn’t normal. This problem is mainly caused by warped rotors all rotors that have worn down unevenly.

6. Your Rotors Have Grooves

It’s always a good idea to visually inspect as much of your car as you can to make sure everything is in good condition. You’ll see your rotors if you peek between the spokes of your wheel. The surface should appear smooth, and if it isn’t, then it’s time to replace the rotors. Take a look at the brake pads while you’re down there; if they look less than 1/4 of an inch thick, then they should be replaced, too.
